A Spot of Tea

Last Friday I went to a traditional English tea that was put on by my summer school program. It was delicious! Tea food is definitely my favorite kind of food here in England. The tea was good; it was a traditional black tea with milk and sugar. I have always been a tea person, so I love living in a place where it is the national drink. We also had scones, tea sandwiches, and cake. The scones were also great. There are two kinds of scones that I have eaten before in the US: biscuit-textured scones and cake-textured scones. These were a cross between the two, with the best features of each. They were served with strawberry jam and unsweetened cream. I think this is one of my favorite foods in the world. If you ever want to bribe me, this is a good thing to do it with ;). The tea sandwiches were good. Nothing spectacular, but cut in perfectly tiny triangles with the crusts trimmed off. The cake was also delicious (I have used that word too many times in this post, but I don’t know what other word to use). It was a moist vanilla sponge cake with a layer of raspberries and cream. Afternoon tea is definitely a custom that I am going to be bringing home with me, so if anyone wants to have a tea party, I will be completely up for that when I get back. 🙂
